To a Little Bird

We present this work in honor of the 75th anniversary of the poet’s death.

Caledonio Junco de la Vega
Mexican
1863 – 1948

Songbird:
You distance
yourself
from golden
bars.

And to the choir
you leave
complaints
and cries.

That your voice
now free
may vibrate.

Your wings
a gala
in the wind.
